What Actually Now Is the "Bach on Bach" Project?

"Bach on Bach", that was a title of a book, which my husband planned 2010 related to the theme of Johann Sebastian Bach. No biography, but a mixture of exciting stuff and knowledge about the composer. That was supposed to come together with the genealogy of the family of musicians and his own genealogy, which we did since around that time. For that reason my husband wanted to "handcraft" a website and what happened meanwhile is, that this plan developed into the "Bach on Bach" project. His book plans from back then just rest a little since exactly that moment, when we decided to do much more than "just to write a book". From the beginning we knew that with such a book would never find a publishing company that takes such a risk with the print and publication. So, with that finding we decided: We wanted to publish it on our own. On our own risk. That was the moment when I mentally founded my publishing house. The actual registration happened as late as for years after that.

If all this sounds so cool that you are really very excited and now immediately want to learn more about the life and music of Johann Sebastian Bach and also about the Bach stamps, about the Bach monuments, and up to the Bach cities and Bach places, then please click on the button to the right.  Or ... here.

Real "suddenly"  and almost casually  a seemingly teeny project "passed" the big "endeavor": It was the project of a Bach Biography for Children. A date with the painter of all the illustrations was the beginning. Back in Flein, close to the city of Heilbronn in Southern Germany, we began with the project which is our whole pride today. You discovered that on your own: We made this picture in Berlin, Germany (... of course) right in front of the world-famous Brandenburg Gate. In the picture you can see from the right to the left: Petra-Ines Kaune, I and my husband Peter.

In fact, on all portals where the publishing house "Bach 4 You" is also represented with a store, there are hundreds of thousands of gifts and certainly tens of thousands of music gifts. And if you find something exciting there and then also "enter" there via a website of my publishing house, then you support our mission with it. Thank you for that.

In the meantime, the Bach Biography for Children had become a very time-consuming project in our "Johann Sebastian Bach Mission" and the creation of this website, on which you are reading right now, is part of it. Since nothing is as easy as it seems before, we are now, of course, working hard to spread the word about our "baby". But the presentation of our Bach Biography for Children is only one of many segments in our mission, that is the mission of the Renate Bach Publishing House "Bach 4 You" and the project of my husband, "Bach on Bach". The latest addition to the project is a small video entitled "A Bach Biography for Children – the Promotional Film". But don't worry: It won't be "evening-filling", not with duration of only five minutes.

Bach on Bach – Websites, Books, Projects, Excitement and Our Mission

Firstly, "Bach on Bach" today is the website of my husband about Johann Sebastian Bach. It's meanwhile the largest German and as well the biggest international website about the Thomas Cantor. "Bach on Bach" – that are actually hundreds of pages ...

...more than 1,000 videos ...

... hundreds of pictures ...

... Bach's music ...

... postage stamps related to the subject of Johann Sebastian Bach ...

... tributes, sayings, quotes related to the master...

... the Genealogy of the Bach Family of Musicians ...

... Bach cities and Bach locations ...

... plus he introduces more composers and more families of musicians on this, his website.

Johann Sebastian Bach in Ulm, in the Ulm Cathedral: This was one of the first trips in 2013, in order to have photographed all the monuments that honor Bach at some point. Of course, such a trip first starts with lots and lots of research and time and also planning. At the time, there was only one tiny photo of this Bach monument on the internet, and that was only far, far in the back of Google.

The Bach Band of Johann Friedrich Bach in Rochester, Minnesota, USA. Genealogy is absolutely time consuming. The genealogy about the Bachs even more.

In the meantime we – my husband and I – have put together the most extensive Bach genealogy all over the world ... plus it's the most correct one. However, you have to consider, that our "treasure" is  for 95 %  based on the effort of former Bach genealogists. They deserve the honor. However, what we are proud of, is the fact, to achieve, what even the best of these researchers couldn't accomplish. We are able to enlarge the family tree with nowadays data – that is to say with living person's data – and that was not possible without the internet. Meanwhile, we don't only look for relatives anymore, we let us find. As authorities and churches don't help with that for a good reason: It' all about data privacy.

A year-long research and many, many trips resulted, in what we call the "Johann Sebastian Bach Adventure Playground" today, which you can explore and enjoy.

Our Website About the Bach Place of Wechmar

A mayor – today he is chief mayor of a much bigger Bach city of Gotha in the neighborhood – and engaged residents of a little village of Wechmar, next door to the mentioned city of Gotha in Thuringia "almost made a wonder happen". As a group they could prevent, that a jewel in the Bach history was almost lost, better was torn down. Because of a road construction. In the very last minute they found out, that it was this mill in Wechmar, in which – back then – everybody who is interested also in the family of the composer, Veit Bach, great-great-grandfather of Johann Sebastian Bach, ground his grain, and it is said that he used to play on a sort of cytern to the beat of the mill wheel..

That is just reason enough, to produce a short video about this community plus of course: an attractive website. In many biographies this little village is not even mentioned, however it's so close to the known Bach locations and Bach cities. And it's of such an importance for the family of musicians, that it's a pity, if this location will not at all be mentioned anymore anywhere in the far future. The website about this little cute village is there to help to avoid that. Here you get directly to this website "Bach in Wechmar".

There it is, the Veit Bach Mill. The street in front now makes an arch around it. Thank God. We pay our tribute to the responsible folks. Here you get more info.

"Johann Sebastian Bach for Children"

Initially we planed our whole project actually only for Bach fans. That is, how it started around the years 2010 and 2011. Exciting for all those, who adore the great composer from Eisenach, Thuringia in Germany. But when the project became bigger and bigger, not only our common mission developed to collect historic stuff around the topic of Bach, to research the Bach genealogy even more intense. and to look for Bach postage stamps and after that to buy them and researching for quotes and tributes. After finding both, we organized them, edited the information and doing so, there was a exciting awareness.

While probably not more than one person in 10,000 is interested in Bach's life, Bach and classical music is one of the big themes in school on both sides of the Atlantic and maybe all over the world, when it comes to the big topics in music education.

And when you are underway in a mission, like my husband with his "Bach on Bach" project and I with my Renate Bach Publishing House, than you get to the awareness, that you never ever again get the chance in a human's life to convince him or her so efficiently, like if kids still research for a preference for a music style or just for the reason, to plant a seed, which maybe prospers then, when there is the first time in life, to start to learn a musical instrument, or even decades later, when it's getting more and more probable, to like or even love classical music.

So, also the little website about Johann Sebastian Bach for children came into being. It is part of several Bach portals of my husband and is part of the "Bach on Bach" project. While the actual website just addresses some pages to children directly, the portal "Johann Sebastian Bach for Children" is a pure offer to kids, parents and teachers. The challenge was, to address it to all age groups as a source in the matter of Bach. For the reason not to offer the same content on both websites, "Johann  Sebastian Bach for Children" is first and foremost a "guidepost website". It is supposed to accompany kids to the FAQ on "Bach on Bach". And it's supposed to make a first careful connection to Bach's music. Fun is explicitly the focus. For homework, presentations and similar projects there are even several short biographies available. Entertaining, short, long, a video biography in just 9 entertaining minutes and the oldest of some 700 published biographies about Bach, the Bach Necrology.

However, my husband also aims to answer precisely formulated questions even before they have been asked by students. That is, to meet these kids then at Google with the answer under the first positions with a point-exact information: with his meanwhile around 115 Bach-FAQ.

The background of the calendar motif fits to the colors of this website. And a colleague of Mr. Bach may pose here as an exception. This composers calendar is only one of 33. The publishing house "Bach 4 You" offers a total of 99 music calendars: 33 music calendars for children and adults, 33 Bach calendars and 33 composers calendars.

At Zazzle, more precisely, in our Zazzle store, many of the Bach calendars, the music calendars and the composers calendars above are also available as booklet calendars (... that is with a huge grid in the lower half). We do not like this kind of calendars, but in America, and maybe in other countries, they love them.

Cool gifts for musicians: the noble Bach beer stein from the year 2000 and the cool 2024 Pipe Organ Calendar. There are only a few copies of this particular Bach beer stein left, but you can still buy the pipe organ calendar for many years to come. And every year a new one is added. You get to the shop via the paragraph section above, first to a junction, from there you get to the publishing house shop.

One Bach calendar, one music calendar, one composers calendar. These are three great gifts for musicians.
